Clinical Psychologist in Staff Psychology (Maternity)

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate senior clinical psychologist to provide specialist psychological support, and consultation to enhance the wellbeing of maternity staff at North Bristol NHS Trust, as part of our award-winning Trust-wide Staff Psychology Service.

The Staff Psychology Team provides a range of responsive and proactive support to staff. The service has a particular ethos in supporting relational and team wellbeing, recognising that resilience is often more helpfully seen as being fostered by connections between us, not just within us.

Staff Psychology already provides substantial input into the Women's and Children's Division. This new post reflects the demand, and the need to increase our capacity to provide tailored support, from preventative, responsive to specialist. The post holder will be involved in developing specific interventions and support to midwives and other maternity staff, to enable them to manage the pressures of their work, and to help them to give care in a psychologically and trauma informed informed way.

The new postholder will provide senior psychological input to support the overall direction of psychology within Women and Children's and within the Staff Psychology services, and to enable us to extend the reach and nature of the support we offer. Alongside the senior staff psychologists within the staff psychology team, the post holder will have close working relationships with the NICU psychologist as well as WACH leads.

Main duties of the job

Clinical, organisational, and leadership

• To provide high quality, specialist interventions to maternity staff at North Bristol NHS Trust, on an individual and group/ team level, as needed and as guided by priorities within the division.
• To develop and deliver training to support the psychological wellbeing of maternity staff and as part of fostering the culture of care.
• To be responsive to staff needs using high levels of expertise following adverse events, as well as wider support to develop a positive team culture including interventions to foster psychological safety and peer compassion.
• To have skills in assessing and managing psychological risk, and supporting non psychology colleagues within this as needed.
• To build strong relationships with key stakeholders within Women and Childrens Division, Mental Health Liaison, Occupational Health, Staff Experience, as well as relevant external organisations.
• To further the knowledge and expertise in supporting this group of staff, by learning about good practice and research in this area.
• To provide clinical supervision to more junior clinical psychology colleagues and have flexibility for cross cover as required
• To take a consultancy and advisory role as part of preventing, improving and sustaining emotional and team wellbeing of staff at North Bristol NHS Trust.

To maintain and further develop high standards of clinical psychology practice through co-operative work with clinical colleagues.

• To adhere to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) regulations required as a registered Practitioner Psychologist, and to to fully observe the BPS Code of Conduct and the DCP Professional Practice Guidelines
• To adhere to any professional guidance from the British Psychological Society, Department of Health, and the Trust, with particular reference to: informed consent, note-taking, confidentiality, information sharing and safeguarding.
• To engage with and support the appraisal process, continuing professional development, essential training and clinical supervision, as required by the Trust and the HCPC.
• To attend and actively participate in professional and clinical speciality meetings, and to keep the Staff Wellbeing and Consultant wellbeing teams updated with key issues, updates, developments, and risks.
• To provide cover within Staff Wellbeing Psychology / Clinical Health Psychology as needed.
• To advise and participate in appropriate professional recruitment in the service as appropriate
• To maintain and regularly update practice within the current evidence base.
• To be aware of and comply with all policies, guidelines, and directives of Staff Wellbeing Psychology Service within this Trust with regard to professional and clinical governance, and to contribute to policy and service development and implementation at Trust, national levels as relevant and indicated
• To be aware of and comply with legislation, guidance, training pertaining to safeguarding and the wellbeing of staff and patient safety, relevant national standards, and NICE guidance.
