Job description

Clinical Psychologists or Trainee Clinical Psychologists due to qualify in 2025 with an interest in clinical health psychology and the psychological impact of physical trauma/injuries and living with a visible difference are invited to apply for a well-established post within the regional burns service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a fixed-term position for 9 months to cover maternity leave.

The post involves working with adult burns patients (0.4 WTE) and children and their families (0.3 WTE) who have experienced burn injuries. Responsibilities include inpatient and outpatient support, assisting patients and families during hospital admission and post-discharge. The work covers clinical presentations such as emotional reactions, adjustment difficulties, anxiety, parental distress, PTSD, appearance-related concerns, low mood, pain management, and engagement in rehabilitation.

The postholder will provide highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions, offer advice, consultation, training, and share psychological formulations with non-psychologist colleagues and carers. They will work autonomously within professional guidelines, contribute to audit, service development, research, and provide supervision to trainees and assistants.

Join the Department of Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology within a growing, welcoming team. The post collaborates closely with the multidisciplinary burns team, including surgeons, nurses, physiotherapists, and others, where clinical psychology is well integrated. The postholder will work under the guidance of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and an Assistant Psychologist.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Work closely with the multidisciplinary burns team to provide psychological care to children, adults, and their families.
  2. Engage with children, young people, and their families through consultation, direct work, and participation in clinics and meetings.
  3. Deliver highly specialist psychological assessments and therapies, providing advice and consultation to the MDT, working autonomously within guidelines.
  4. Utilise research skills for audit, policy, service development, and research.
  5. Supervise trainees undertaking doctoral training, where appropriate.
  6. Contribute to service development as required.
  7. Deliver teaching and training to the multidisciplinary team.
