We are seeking an enthusiastic Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) to join our friendly and innovative Mental Health Integrated Network Team (MINT) in Ealing. MINT is a multidisciplinary service providing holistic support and treatment to adults presenting with a range of mental health difficulties within a stepped-care framework. We have an established psychology team which is well integrated and highly valued in the service.

The post holder will work with people who use our services to develop a shared understanding of the complex issues they face, how they cope, and the impact on their mental, physical health, and wellbeing, as well as those around them. The post holder will contribute to the provision of individual and group psychological interventions under supervision of qualified clinical/counselling psychologists.

This role involves embedding and developing psychological principles within the work of the entire MDT. We require a candidate who thrives in a team environment and is passionate about disseminating psychological thinking.

Main duties of the job

All clinical duties will be carried out under the supervision and direction of a qualified Clinical/Counselling Psychologist. You will manage your own clinical caseload and deliver psychological interventions to service users, including those experiencing high distress and common mental health difficulties. Some service users may present with a high level of risk to themselves or others. You will join a dedicated staff group with extensive expertise in complex mental health difficulties, trauma-informed approaches, and culturally sensitive practices.

The role includes working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including asylum seekers, and using interpreters when necessary. A commitment to promoting equality of access and understanding the psychological needs related to migration is essential.

The post holder will provide psychological guidance to the entire MDT and should have a genuine desire to work within an MDT and promote psychological approaches.

Qualifications

  • An approved Master’s qualification in Clinical Associate in Psychology, qualifying for registration with the British Psychological Society
  • Attendance at relevant specialist short courses (e.g., Trauma-Informed Care, Group Approaches)

Experience

  • Experience working in the NHS, voluntary sector, or with community groups (e.g., youth worker, mentoring, peer support, link worker)
  • Experience working with clients with serious mental health issues, including mental health care, working with carers, delivering therapeutic group interventions, working in MDTs, or conducting audits, evaluations, or research
  • Experience working in multicultural settings
  • Experience collaborating with voluntary organizations
  • Experience working with interpreters
  • Experience working with individuals with complex emotional needs (e.g., personality disorder)

Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to apply formulations to presenting problems
  • Understanding of mental health issues and treatment approaches
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems and structures (staffing, roles, responsibilities, hospital, primary, and community care)
  • Ability to develop clinical formulations based on theoretical knowledge under supervision
  • Strong skills in engaging with services, community partners, and stakeholders, and expanding networks
  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills with service users, carers, staff, and community partners
