The NHS Tayside Clinical Health Psychology Service consists of psychology posts embedded within multidisciplinary medical teams across the Pain Service, Dundee Dental Hospital, National Referral Protocol Service, and the Scottish Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service. In addition, the General Medical Service provides specialist psychological input to adult patients with complex physical health difficulties where there is no embedded psychology provision, including within Diabetes, Renal, and Rheumatology services.
We are excited to offer the opportunity to join the NHS Tayside Clinical Health Psychology Service, working across the General Medical Service, Dundee Dental Hospital, and the Scottish Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service.
Within Dundee Dental Hospital, the post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary dental healthcare team to improve access to dental care for individuals who experience significant psychological barriers. The role involves providing specialist psychological assessment and evidence-based interventions for individuals presenting with dental anxiety, phobia, trauma-related difficulties, and other complex needs that impact engagement with dental services. The post holder will work closely with dental professionals to promote psychologically informed care, reduce avoidance, and improve patient outcomes.
The role also includes consultation, delivery of training within the Dental Hospital, teaching, and contributing to the ongoing development of care pathways for individuals requiring additional psychological support. Psychological assessment and intervention will be undertaken, as appropriate, to support wider dental care within the Hospital. The post holder will hold an honorary teaching role with the University of Dundee and contribute to the teaching of dental students. There are significant opportunities to undertake research with the support of experienced colleagues.
The post will also provide psychological care to adults referred to the General Medical Service within Clinical Health Psychology. This includes specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for adults with complex physical health difficulties where psychological factors impact presentation, treatment adherence, or adjustment to illness. The role involves multidisciplinary working with medical and allied health professional colleagues, offering consultation, contributing to integrated care planning, and promoting psychologically informed care. The service also supports staff through training and consultation and contributes to service development and evaluation.
Finally, the post holder will provide one session per week to the Scottish Adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Service, supporting the multidisciplinary care of individuals living with CF. This includes contributing to psychological distress screening, identifying appropriate interventions, and supporting individuals to maintain their quality of life despite the high treatment burden associated with the condition. The post holder will support people living with CF to navigate the challenges and life choices associated with living with a long-term condition.
This post offers excellent opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD) and research. The successful applicant will demonstrate drive, enthusiasm, and flexibility and will be able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
