Mental Health Clinical Practice Educator

Who We Are

As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.

We have six regional centres – Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Hillington, Cardonald and Clydebank. This post is based in the Cardonald regional centre. The successful candidate must be able to travel to all regional centres.

The Role

The post holder will lead on NHS 24's Mental Health Core Induction and Training Programme for all Mental Health frontline staff recruited across all NHS 24 Contact Centres, as well as assist with other Core Induction facilitated by the Training and Practice Education Team. The post holder will provide a robust training programme which supports and facilitates front line staff in undertaking safe effective, efficient telephone triage signposting to the appropriate care provider. Supports the staff to provide interim self-care advice and health improvement advice and information to the people of Scotland.

The post holder will also design, develop, support, deliver and evaluate the induction of multiple groups of multidisciplinary staff per year. Each group will consist of approximately 12 to 20 new staff and there may be up to 3 groups running concurrently at any one site.

Key Responsibilities

  • be an Associate Lead to the Senior Nurse Educator for a particular specialty area from:

-Practice Development

-Professional Development

-Clinical Development

and consults with the Senior Nurse Educator as appropriate.

  • be expected to work / move between any of these specialist areas whilst maintaining expertise within their specific field and would be required to develop and update their knowledge of the other two areas
  • work to agreed objectives seeking advice and guidance from appropriate individuals when necessary.
  • In conjunction with team members undertake critical analysis of research to inform and enable best practice. For example: Through the Core Clinical group and their own practice.
  • Participate through submission and review of educational materials via Clinical Education Governance Group as subject matter experts (CEGG)

Successful Applicant will:

  • Be a Registered Mental Health Nurse with extensive experience.
  • Be Educated to or working towards first level degree or relevant clinical experience.
  • Have Experience of delivering training/ development programmes.
  • Have Excellent computer skills with knowledge of relevant software applications.
  • Have Awareness of national strategic professional nursing issues and key NHS policy drivers.
  • Be able to travel

NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a permanent contract on a band 7 contract with a salary ranging from £50,861 - £59,159 Per Annum (pro rata if applicable). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
