This post is to join our team in maternity services as a Midwife (fixed term) to support the Practice Education and Development team.
Responsibilities
- Lead on the implementation and development of systems and processes to support students in clinical practice to ensure their experience provides the skills, knowledge and experiences required to practice as a midwife.
- Be the main point of contact for student midwives, Trust staff and Higher Education Institute (HEI) partners; lead the SSSA standards including training.
- Work with ward and department managers on the clinical placement programme for all students; line manage employed student midwives (recruitment processes, rosters, appraisals, training compliance).
- Influence recruitment of students for clinical placement within the maternity unit; lead on ensuring Midwifery learners have a positive and quality experience in maternity.
- Provide leadership in: recruitment, education audits, governance, patient safety and quality improvement as it relates to midwifery education.
- Maintain relationship with HEIs and link tutors to develop student experience and practice in line with NMC standards.
- Lead on SSSA teaching programme and ensure supervisors and assessors are trained and developed.
- Coordinate education-related activities including OSCE/VIVA assessments and curriculum planning with HEIs.
- Deliver effective orientation, induction, teaching support and development of new student midwives; undertake annual educational audits for all clinical areas.
- Ensure compliance with data protection, confidentiality and GDPR, and practice within risk management and occupational health guidelines.

- Practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code and Trust policies
- Demonstrate specialist expertise, maintain clinical knowledge and support maternity services with performance monitoring and quality improvement
- Collaborate with the maternity team to monitor outcomes and drive high standards of care for women
- Monitor quality of care through audits, incident reporting, complaints and clinical governance activities
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in care delivery and staff development
- Ensure a safe and effective environment, including risk assessments and adherence to health and safety legislation
Qualifications
- Registered midwife
- Educated to degree level
- Experience in facilitation/teaching/assessing
- Appropriate UK professional registration

- NLS

- Significant recent experience in midwifery

- Evidence of working to standards and ability to work under pressure
