Qualifications

Clinical Physiologist - Respiratory and Sleep

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, well motivated individual to work within the Respiratory and Sleep physiology team at NorthManchester General Hospital and associated Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Harpurhey, part of the Manchester University NHSFoundation Trust.

This is a rapidly growing service and we require an individual with the drive and ambition to move the service forward within the evolving field of respiratory and sleep medicine, providing high standards of patient care in keeping with trust values.

Main duties of the job

Working as an effective team member, taking responsibility for planning, implementing and evaluating the day-to-day care provided to patients.

Provide and perform, specialist and advanced clinical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the two disciplines of Clinical Respiratory and Clinical Sleep Physiology, to patients of all ages, from a range of specialties, which are essentially cardio-thoracic in nature.

Teaching, training and mentoring of students and junior staff.

Working between North Manchester General Hospital and Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) on a rostered basis.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • BSc degree in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent), Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) or registered / working towards PTP equivalence.
  • Eligible for AHCS / RCCP registration.
Experience
  • Experience working within respiratory/sleep physiology measurement within a clinical setting.
  • Perform range of basic and specialised respiratory /sleep investigations without supervision.
  • Experience of CPAP issue and after care with patients.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience in stock control.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Up to date knowledge of respiratory and / or sleep physiology.
  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in a variety of forms to patients, relatives and carers whose cognisance may be limited and where there are barriers to understanding.
  • Able to undertake complex eye-hand co-ordination in the use of diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to keep accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex lung function and/or sleep data
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Other
  • Prepared to work at potential community diagnostic centres (CDC) on a rostered system.
  • Motivated and organised.
  • Empathetic / Caring.
