Job summary

The primary purpose of this role is to support and deliver care within the sleep service, with a particular focus on the management of patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) receiving continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment. The post holder will also be responsible for distributing and interpreting sleep studies and is expected to develop or maintain dual training in respiratory physiology.

The role directly contributes to the Trust's strategic aim of delivering excellent care every time by helping to expand access and improve service delivery for sleep patients across Sussex.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Delivering sleep studies and contributing to diagnostic services for OSA
  • Managing CPAP-treated patients through annual reviews
  • Supporting the administrative pathway for consumable and CPAP device replacement
  • Conducting DVLA reviews
  • Participating in MDT meetings for sleep care
  • Supporting respiratory function services (where required and appropriate)
Main duties of the job

Liaise with the sleep MDT and contribute to clinical discussions

Support management of CPAP consumables and replacement equipment

Educate patients on equipment usage and troubleshoot issues

Supervise and mentor junior staff and students (e.g. medical, nursing, and healthcare scientist)

Participate in audits, QI projects, and local research relevant to the service

Develop and review SOPs, patient communication letters and educational materials

Contribute to respiratory function lab activity if appropriately trained

Escalate clinical concerns appropriately and safely

Organise personal workload and clinics to meet service needs

Comply with data protection legislation and Trust information governance policies

Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping across all activities
