Are you an experienced Pharmacy Technician looking for a career change or your next challenge in an acute hospital trust?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our modern, purpose-built facilities at Colchester Hospital.

This exciting opportunity has arisen due to new investment, allowing you to help develop and progress the clinical pharmacy service within Care of the Elderly and Frailty practice.

You will be based within the Pharmacy department but will spend significant time working at ward level, fully integrated within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the delivery of pharmacy services to high-risk patients.

Our friendly pharmacy team is dedicated to nurturing, mentoring, and developing staff through one-to-one training, forums, clinical huddles, and educational activities. We support personal development plans, smart objectives, and study opportunities.

ESNEFT is preparing for a full site-wide implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record, including electronic prescribing, administration, and pharmacy stock control system replacement.

Main duties of the job

Provide an advanced clinical pharmacy service to Care of the Elderly and Frailty patients, aligned with KPIs and clinical standards.

Support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Care of the Elderly patients.

Prioritize discharge and patient care to ensure optimal patient flow, in line with Trust initiatives.

Offer clinical support and guidance to pharmacy colleagues and the multidisciplinary team.

Assist senior colleagues in ensuring medication safety and clinical governance issues are addressed promptly within the specialty.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential):

  • Certificate in Medicines Management

Experience (Essential):

  • Extensive hospital experience including Clinical Pharmacy practice
  • Experience of multidisciplinary ward working and handling high-risk medicines
  • Experience in staff education and training

Desirable:

  • Experience working with Care of the Elderly and Frailty patients

Knowledge (Essential):

  • Computer literacy, including electronic prescribing systems
  • Medicines Management
  • Clinical issues relevant to Care of the Elderly and Frailty patients
  • Understanding of pharmacy organizational structure and team relationships
  • Good pharmaceutical knowledge

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of clinical issues in elderly wards
