Main duties of the job

Youwill be responsible for the provision and development of clinical pharmacyservices to our adult medicine specialities within unplanned care at LeedsGeneral Infirmary.. You will lead and line manage a team of clinicalpharmacists that are responsible for clinical pharmacy across a range ofspecialities including trauma and orthopaedics, neurology and neurosurgery,cardiology, vascular surgery, adult critical care, ENT/head and neck &plastic surgery

Youwill develop strategic plans and staffing requirements for pharmacy servicesto these areas.

Youwill develop and manage the delivery of pharmacy services to ensure efficientuse of resources and systems including monitoring drug expenditure anddelivery of financial savings. You will be responsible for the provision ofinformation to CSU's regarding clinical and financial governance, and issuesaround service delivery and future developments.

JOBDETAILS

JOBPURPOSE

Tomanage a team of pharmacists delivering specialist clinical pharmacy servicesto specified Clinical Service/Support Units (CSUs) within the Trust. To bethe first point of contact, and support for the CSUs, on all mattersrelating to pharmacy.

JOBDIMENSIONS

Provide expert opinion, both withinand outside pharmacy, to ensure the safe and effective delivery of drugtherapy to defined clinical areas.

Provide pharmaceutical professionalleadership for defined clinical areas by liaison with pharmacy operationalservices and key members of the CSU. Be responsible for professionalleadership for specified area of Trust e.g. locality hospital.

The post holder will also performthe role of a lead clinical pharmacist to a defined clinical area. In thisrole, the post holder will ensure medicines are used appropriately, safely,and cost-effectively in accordance with Trust policy, standard operatingprocedures and medicine legislation. The post holder is expected to determinehow the outcomes are best achieved in specific circumstances.

Manage a team of specialistpharmacists providing clinical pharmacy services to the defined clinicalareas and CSUs

Responsible for the provision ofinformation to the CSUs regarding clinical and financial governance, andissues around service delivery and future developments

Responsible for the co-ordinationof training for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals on aspects ofdrug use within defined clinical specialities.

Provide a minimum of at least onesession of professional supervisory cover in the dispensary, asepticdispensary, Medicines Information Department or other related activity. Thepost holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays ona rotational basis.

To act as the responsiblepharmacist in line with local procedures.

5. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEREQUIRED

Masters qualification in Pharmacy(4 years), or equivalent qualification, plus 1 year pre-registrationtraining.

Member of the GeneralPharmaceutical Council

Postgraduate Diploma in ClinicalPharmacy or equivalent experience or qualification

Significant post registrationexperience as a practising clinical pharmacist, including two years as aspecialist pharmacist in an area relevant to the post. Ability to demonstrate competency in thesix areas required for RPS Faculty advanced levels of practice, independentof the sector of practice.

Proven ability to have successfullydealt with highly complex clinical and managerial issues which required thepharmacist to analyse and formulate a response, based on a range of sources,some of which may not be in agreement, In these situations, it maybenecessary to find a novel solution to an unusual clinical or managerialsituation. The pharmacist will have developed negotiating and persuasiveskills when interacting with other clinical team members, hospital managers,patients and relatives

Experience of dealing with a widevariety and grade of hospital staff on a regular and ongoing basis, includingsenior medical and managerial staff.

Specialist knowledge of a clinicalarea/department which demonstrates abilityto manage a caseload, preferably within the clinical speciality.

9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OFRESPONSIBILITY

Provide pharmaceutical care to agroup of patients in various specialities on a rotational basis. Beresponsible for ensuring that the legal and statutory requirements inrelation to medicines are met and ensure that the delivery of pharmaceuticalcare to patients in the defined clinical area meets both national and localstandards.

Provide professional pharmacistcover on a sessional basis to inpatient and outpatient dispensaries,Medicines Information, Aseptic services and Mental Health, in order to meetlegal requirements.

Participate in the dispensing andchecking of clinical trial materials

Participates in documenting ofprescribing and administration near misses(interventions)

Pharmacists who are registered asprescribers will, with the agreement of the clinical director of thespeciality, prescribe within their level of competence, to support patientcare.

Assist clinical colleagues in thedevelopment and implementation of policies and procedures for the informed,economic use of medicines

Assist clinical colleagues withhorizon scanning activities for new treatments and products in the relevantarea and with submissions to the Drugs and Therapeutics committee

Assist clinical colleagues in theprovision of accurate financial and risk-management data to the appropriateClinical Management Team for the speciality

Participate in the provision ofEducation and Training activities for all pharmacy staff

Participate in research anddevelopment programs and audit within pharmacy services

Receive prescription payments frompatients where appropriate.

Participate in the departmentslate night and weekend working arrangements.
