Job description

Clinical Pharmacist – The Esplanade Surgery, Ryde

£24.50 - £27.90 per hour, dependant on experience.

We’re on the lookout for a motivated and experienced Clinical Pharmacist to join our friendly team at The Esplanade Surgery, right on the seafront in beautiful Ryde. Whilst we are looking to appoint a Clinical Pharmacist on a full-time basis, we would consider part-time hours for the right candidate.

In this role, you’ll be a key part of our general practice team, helping us care for people with long-term conditions, reviewing and optimising medications, and improving health outcomes across our community.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Clinical Pharmacist in general practice, your work is vital. Prescribing is a huge part of everyday care, and with the rising complexity of conditions and treatments, pharmacists like you are more important than ever.

Here’s what you’ll be involved with:

  • Working directly with patients, using your clinical expertise to assess and treat conditions, especially those involving long-term medication use.
  • Taking the lead on managing care for patients with chronic illnesses and reviewing complex medication routines—particularly for older adults, care home residents, and those with multiple conditions.
  • Prescribing medicines (or training to do so if you’re not yet qualified).
  • Playing an active role in improving medicine use and safety, reducing waste, and encouraging self-care.
  • Promoting good antibiotic stewardship and supporting improvements across the practice (including QoF and enhanced services).
  • Collaborating with colleagues from different teams across primary care, community pharmacy, hospitals, and social care.
  • Helping shape shared care protocols, responding to drug alerts, monitoring spending on medications, and supporting quality audits and improvement work.

About Us

We’ve been part of the local Ryde community for over 60 years, and we care for around 9,000 patients. Our growing, multi-skilled team includes GPs, ANPs, paramedics, nurses, HCAs, and trainees across various clinical roles.

We’re also a training practice – so whether you’re a student, a recent graduate, or bringing years of experience, there’s always room to learn and grow with us.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • You’re a registered pharmacist (GPhC)
  • You hold an MPharm degree
  • You’ve got experience developing protocols or clinical guidelines, and you’ve taken part in audits
  • You’re happy to undergo a DBS check and maintain patient confidentiality

Desirable:

  • Independent Prescribing qualification
  • Postgraduate diploma or further clinical training
  • PCPEP completion
  • Experience in primary care or similar
  • Familiar with SystmOne (or other clinical systems)

Extra Info

  • You’ll need to be eligible to work in the UK and have a current UK professional registration.
  • We’re happy to consider applicants needing Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
  • This role is subject to a DBS check.
