Job overview

To provide a specialist clinical psychology service to clients served by the North Central London Home Treatment Team, and Beacon Day Service. This includes psychological assessment, short-term individual and group therapy, risk assessment, and management. The post involves offering advice, consultation, and supervision on clients’ psychological care to colleagues and non-professional carers. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines, contribute to service development, and utilize research skills for audit and policy development.

The post may include providing clinical supervision to assistant psychologists and non-psychologists, and participating in training or teaching activities.

Main duties of the job

The post is based between St Ann's and Edgware Community Hospital, working with children, young people, and families presenting with high risks and engagement challenges. The role involves therapeutic work in individual and group settings, supporting multidisciplinary team discussions, and working with emotionally intense situations. The post may require home or hospital visits, and the use of personal vehicle and keyboard skills for clinical documentation.

Person specification
Qualifications/Registrations
  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, including models of psychopathology, psychometrics, neuropsychology, therapies, and lifespan development, accredited by the BPS.
  • HCPC registration as a clinical or counselling psychologist.
  • Post-doctoral training in evidence-based therapies such as CBT, systemic therapy, and EMDR.
Experience
  • Experience in psychological assessment and treatment of young people and adolescents with mental health and learning difficulties across various settings.
  • Experience working with diverse client groups, including crisis situations, and in collaboration with social care teams.
  • Experience in teaching, training, supervision, and working within the NHS.
Skills/Abilities
  • Expertise in complex psychological assessments and interventions, research methodology, and data analysis.
  • Effective communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of psychological therapies for difficult-to-treat groups and relevant legislation.
Personal Qualities
  • Experience in multicultural settings, group work, flexibility, and teaching skills. Car driver desirable.
