An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Upper Gastro-Intestinal Team for a Clinical Nurse Specialist with specific knowledge in Upper GI Cancer investigations and surgery .

We are seeking a registered nurse to join our CNS team. The successful candidate will be supported through a development framework to become an autonomous CNS within the team. Successful applicants will be motivated, have excellent organisational and communication skills and will be committed to caring for patients with supper GI cancer. Knowledge and skills in cancer care and surgical nursing are essential.

The CNS team team provide high quality care and support for patient’s with upper GI cancer

This post requires interpersonal and organisational skills also, the ability to communicate and present at all levels. A flexible approach is vital, as is the need to be self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and priorities tasks/objectives.

Main duties of the job

  • To support for patient’s pre and post upper GI surgery.
  • To act as key worker within the MDT
  • To manage own case load of patients, supporting individual agreed management regimes with the patient, which acknowledge and are responsive to their psychological, physiological and educational needs.
  • Optimise the continuity of care of patients between the Hospital and Community

Education and Qualifications

  • First Level Registration with valid NMC
  • First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes)
  • To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.

Experience

  • Extensive post registration experience including upper GI surgery
  • Relevant experience in caring for patients with upper GI cancer
  • Specialist training relevant to role
  • Communication course

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis and with groups.
  • Organised approach to working with effective time management skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as individually
  • Ability to manage complex workload under pressure and prioritise to meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage organisational change
  • IT literate with a working knowledge of Lorenzo and EDMS
