Job overview

Due to staff promotions, an exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified and experienced practitioners to join our Safeguarding Team as Safeguarding Children Nurse Specialists. The post holders will be integral to the children safeguarding team, working closely with colleagues to ensure high standards of care and that children's safeguarding remains central to practice. They will support service development, standard setting, clinical audit, and benchmarking to deliver needs-led care aligned with local priorities for vulnerable children and young people.

The role involves engaging in safeguarding activities such as offering advice, support, supervision to frontline practitioners, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and participating in safeguarding meetings. The role also includes delivering safeguarding training programs.

You will need to demonstrate critical thinking, analytical skills, good organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The position is based in our Southwark community team, supporting universal services at Sunshine House (Southwark).

Main duties of the job

  • Identify vulnerable children, young people, and families early; provide support and care to protect and promote their health and wellbeing.
  • Recognize and prevent situations detrimental to health and wellbeing.
  • Provide expert practice and advice in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Lead in clinical practice within the specialist area.
  • Contribute to child protection case conferences and strategy meetings for effective planning.
  • Represent the Trust on multi-agency safeguarding groups as required.
  • Deliver safeguarding training to staff, facilitating learning and development.

Education/Qualifications

  • RN in Children or Health Visitor/SN
  • Specialist Community Public Health qualification
