Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Pleural Service.

The role involves working with the pleural team to deliver safe and effective care for patients with pleural diseases. The service caters to inpatients, outpatients, and day cases.

The postholder will:

  1. Deliver nurse-led clinics under the supervision of a pleural consultant.
  2. Provide education, support, and training to medical staff, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals throughout the trust and in a community setting.
  3. Provide education, support, and training for patients, family members, and carers.
  4. Assist the pleural team with pleural interventions.
  5. Develop competency in pleural intervention and disease management, assessed via a competency framework within an agreed timeframe.
  6. Handle administration, organisation, and triage of pleural work, working closely with the multidisciplinary team.
  7. Participate in local and national audits related to pleural disease.
  8. Contribute to pleural research and service development within the respiratory service.
  9. Practice autonomously and be self-directed.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have some experience in pleural disease, in ward, community, or outpatient settings, with at least two years post-registration experience. They must be able to practice autonomously, be self-directed, operate efficiently as part of a team, demonstrate eagerness to learn and develop, and have a passion for education. They will have the opportunity to contribute to service development.

The postholder will work closely with the lead Pleural Consultants and will be supported by the Lead Respiratory Nurse Specialist. They will also be part of the wider Respiratory team at UCLH.
