Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Paediatric Nurse to join our Neurosciences service for 9 months as a full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist working within the TANDeM Service at the Evelina London Children's Hospital.

The service provides a comprehensive diagnostic and management service for children affected by tics and Neuro-developmental Movements. Our clinic is part of the children's neurosciences centre at St Thomas' Hospital, the largest children's neurosciences service in Europe.

We are looking for a motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist with a keen interest in working with children, young people and families with tics, movement disorders and/or neurodevelopmental conditions.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will contribute to multidisciplinary complex assessment clinics and provide evidence-based direct and indirect intervention to children, young people and families with tics and other movement disorders, including medication monitoring.

This is an interesting and varied role with scope to develop further specialist knowledge and skills within the context of the multi-disciplinary team. You will be working with a Consultant Neurologist, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist and Clinical Psychologists.

Job responsibilities
  • Clinical and Patient Care: Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering specialised individualised and personalised direct patient care.
  • Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
  • Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products.
  • Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the specialty.
  • Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient-oriented approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
  • Ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • RN1 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register.
  • Post registration qualification in appropriate area of specialty or equivalent post qualification experience.
  • Mentorship Course.
Skills
  • Evidence of teaching skills in particular teaching patients in how to manage their conditions and raise their awareness of their condition.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication skills.
  • IT Skills.
  • Ability to clinically lead & influence staff.
Experience
  • Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient-focused care.
  • Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator.
  • Experience of audit, research & evidence-based care.
