Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced paediatric nurse to join the paediatric metabolic team. In December 2020, the Paediatric Metabolic Unit was commissioned to set up a new highly specialised service funded by NHSE to deliver treatment to patients with a diagnosis of Battens Disease. Since 2020, the service has grown considerably, and there is now a highly specialised team of nurses providing the service.

We are now looking for an experienced Band 6 nurse to join the team. The post holder ideally will have experience in providing care to patients with a neurometabolic disease, but this is not essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will play a key role in ensuring the service delivery of the Battens disease treatment. This will include general patient care and checking the administration of the intraventricular medication.

The post holder will also:

  1. Act as an advocate for the patient and family in liaising with others such as community teams and schools, being an integral part of the patient journey.
  2. Be an active member of the MDT team.
  3. Manage safeguarding within the specialty.
  4. Be an active mentor to nursing students.

In addition, you should have good communication skills, be comfortable working alone or as a member of a team, remain calm under pressure, and be able to prioritise workload. The work requires consistent attention to detail and excellent organisational and IT skills.

In return for your skills and experience, the Trust will encourage your development via a personal development plan and opportunities for further training on internal training courses.
