Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role within the nursing team at St. Mark's Hospital.

This is a full-time permanent position. It is suitable for an experienced, dynamic, and motivated senior nurse or nurse specialist with an interest in IBD and advanced treatment therapies. This role offers the chance to work alongside an established IBD CNS team. Informal visits and discussions are encouraged.

Location and Coverage: The post requires working across St. Mark's, Northwick Park, Central Middlesex, and Ealing hospitals as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide comprehensive clinical skills, information, advice, and support to patients with IBD across multiple hospitals.
  2. Work as an independent practitioner alongside a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Undertake research and participate in clinical audits to ensure clinical excellence, grounded in evidence-based practice.
  4. Participate in education and training of the multidisciplinary team within the trust, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
  5. Offer expert clinical advice to team members within the trust and externally.

Working Relationships and Communication:

The role involves advanced clinical history taking, managing complex medical and surgical information, and formulating care plans for IBD patients. It includes providing nurse-led clinics, administering complex intravenous therapies, and delivering personalized patient education and support. The CNS will also collaborate on research, present at meetings, and maintain accurate records.

Clinical Responsibility:

The CNS is responsible for assessing and treating inpatients, outpatients, and telephone consultations, developing care protocols, initiating changes in medical therapy, and supporting ward-based care. The role includes liaising with other healthcare professionals and external organizations to ensure continuity and quality of care.
