For a limited time MaineHealth is offering up to $10,000 Sign-on Bonus for all eligible experienced Registered Nurses with 1-2 years of experience, and up to $20,000 for those with more than 2 years of RN experience!

* Eligible candidates are hired (offer accepted) into a Full or Part-time RN position. Bonus amount prorated for Part-time hires; per diem hires are ineligible.

* Current MaineHealth employee members are ineligible; former members are ineligible until more than 6 months of separation from employment.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility for pediatric critical care in the northeast, featuring advanced design and technology, including one positive pressure room and two negative pressure rooms. Our PICU provides high-level intensive care for over 450 critically ill children annually. Our providers are skilled in caring for children with: acute critical illnesses, serious injuries, severe neurological conditions, organ failure, or post-surgical needs. This includes advanced therapies such as invasive and non-invasive respiratory support, sophisticated monitoring, and administration of continuous infusions under close supervision. Patient care varies from 1:1 nursing to a 1:2 nurse:patient ratio. Our multidisciplinary rounds and evidence-based practices ensure the highest quality care.

All shifts are 12 hours, and we utilize a self-scheduling model.


Position Summary:

The Clinical Nurse supports Maine Medical Center's mission, vision, and values by demonstrating excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, patient and family-centered care, community commitment, and accountability. In accordance with national nursing standards and institutional policies, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of nursing care. Care begins at initial contact with the healthcare system and continues across the care continuum, including inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Education: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred. Must enroll in a BSN program within one year of hire and complete it within five years.
  • License/Certifications: Current Maine RN license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year RN experience; pediatric, ICU, NICU, or ED experience preferred; PICU experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrates caring nursing practice and fosters a healing environment.
  • Possesses the technical skills to care for most patient populations on the unit.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to recognize potential crises and initiate appropriate response.
  • In accordance with the Clinical Nursing Advancement Program, a Clinical Nurse II may choose to remain at Level II rather than seeking advancement to Level III.
