Unit Bio

P6 (Pavilion 6) is a 21-bed Inpatient Psychiatry unit at Maine Medical Center. It has evolved from a traditional psychiatric unit to serve a medically complex population with an emphasis on Geriatric Psychiatry. All patients on P6 have both a major psychiatric illness and medical comorbidities requiring inpatient care. We welcome applicants from those new to Psychiatry to experienced professionals. Staff will float between units to provide expert care.

Summary

The Clinical Nurse supports Maine Medical Center's mission, vision, and values by demonstrating excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, patient and family-centered care, community commitment, and accountability. Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of nursing care, in accordance with national standards and hospital policies. Care may be provided across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.

Minimum Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred, with evidence of 10 hours of ongoing education per year.
  2. License/Certifications: Current RN license in Maine; relevant specialty certification preferred.
  3. Experience: At least 1 year of RN experience; inpatient psychiatry, geriatric, or medical psychiatry experience strongly preferred.
  4. Knowledge and Skills: Understanding of professional nursing principles, effective communication, analytical skills for patient condition changes, crisis management, caring practice, and technical skills for various patient populations.
