Job summary

The Bedfordshire Mental Health service has an exciting opportunity for the post of a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Manager to lead and manage Fountains Court - Older Adults Acute Inpatient Service in Bedford.
Poplars Ward is a 18-bedded Older People's Assessment and Treatment Unit in Houghton Regis; providing high quality person-centred care to service users with both functional and organic mental health needs.
Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a committed and passionate Clinical Nurse Manager. Interested candidates will need to demonstrate previous experience in a leadership or managerial position within a multidisciplinary team.
The successful candidate will need to be passionate about providing compassionate care and must be efficient and well organised. They will need to be good role models, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work with this vulnerable patient group and support carers in time of distress. They will need to demonstrate knowledge and skills of caring for both the physical and mental health needs of this patient group, and to be able to ensure that staff are providing care to the expected standard. The individual needs to bring a proven record of leading quality care and service improvement, also development of creativity and inclusive care environments.

The post holder will provide effective clinical leadership to ensure all nursing staff receive the appropriate supervision and support in conjunction with an agreed professional development plan. Furthermore, the post holder will be responsible for establishing and maintaining team systems and processes for effective operation of the team, and to ensure compliance with the achievement of Key Performance Indicators.
The successful candidate must display a considerable degree of initiative, possess mature judgement and maintain a calm, friendly and efficient manner when dealing with service users, their relatives, colleagues and visitors. The post holder will be required to work independently using initiative, and applying a high degree of confidentiality to all of their work. They must be able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, manage competing demands and organise their own work in meeting deadlines in order for the smooth running of the ward area.
