Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Clinical Non-Executive Director to join its Board for a 3-year term. The role involves strategic governance, independent clinical oversight and constructive scrutiny to help drive safe, compassionate and high-quality care across Gateshead and the North East.

The successful candidate will contribute expertise in governance, risk management and clinical leadership, balancing strategic ambition with robust scrutiny in a dynamic NHS

Qualifications

• A recognised clinical qualification and significant senior clinical leadership experience.
• Previous experience serving as a Non-Executive Director.
• Strong understanding of corporate governance and Board accountability.
• Ability to interpret complex information and provide constructive challenge at Board level.
• Commitment to high quality, safe and improving healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development and delivery of strategic priorities and long-term ambitions.
• Provide independent clinical insight and constructive challenge on quality, safety and outcomes.
• Ensure high standards of governance, performance and financial stewardship.
• Support the Board in identifying and managing major risks.
• Hold the Executive to account for delivery against objectives and standards.
• Champion compassionate leadership, workforce wellbeing, equality and inclusion.
• Inform strategic decisions with patient, staff and community perspectives.
