Location: Bristol Office (Hybrid working will be considered)
Salary: Competitive + Benefits
Hours: Monday to Friday – 37.5 hours per week (flexible working hours will be considered)

Job Purpose
To manage day-to-day work on clinical negligence files under the supervision of the Legal Director and to assist fee earners in progressing cases towards settlement. The role involves supporting departmental work and working collaboratively as part of the wider team. Clinical negligence experience is essential.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Legal and Case Support.
• Carry out fee-earning work under supervision across a caseload of clinical negligence matters.
• Assist senior fee earners with substantial and complex cases, including during periods of holiday and sickness.
• Assist with new enquiries and risk assessments
• Attend court hearings, conferences with Counsel, on the direction and under the supervision of the fee earner with conduct.
• Draft legal documents, correspondence, instructions to Counsel, and witness statements.
• Liaise effectively with clients, medical professionals, experts, barristers, and courts in a professional and timely manner.
• Maintain accurate and well-organised digital case records using the firm’s case management system.
• Monitor and act on case deadlines, key dates, and procedural timetables.
• Conduct legal research and summarise findings.
• Comply with firm policies and ensure all legal work meets regulatory and professional standards.
• Demonstrate high levels of personal organisation and attention to detail in all work.
• Contribute to the departments online presence by preparing articles for the microsite and sharing posts on social media platforms.

Departmental Duties:
• Provide flexibility and team support during periods of absence.
• Work collaboratively across the team to ensure excellent client service.
• Achieve agreed billing and performance targets under guidance from the Head of Department.

Compliance and Standards:
• Apply proper professional standards in all matters and operate in accordance with the firm’s risk management practices.
• Demonstrate awareness of client needs and perceptions; act promptly and efficiently in all client interactions.
• Maintain up-to-date legal knowledge and comply with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
• Continuously seek to improve the quality of workload and enhance professional expertise.

Person Specification

Legal Status:
• Right to live and work in the UK.
• Appropriate DBS disclosure will be required prior to appointment.

Education/Qualifications:
• Substantial paralegal experience in a clinical negligence setting is essential.

Skills/Knowledge:
• Good understanding of clinical negligence litigation processes and requirements.
• Experience supporting fee earners in progressing clinical negligence claims.
• Familiarity with handling and analysing medical records.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in using legal case management systems and Microsoft Office.
• High standard of professionalism, organisation, and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise work, manage time effectively, and meet multiple deadlines.
• Flexible, adaptable and responsive to changing operational needs.
