Clinical Lecturer in Primary Dental Care

This is an exciting time to join Bristol Dental School in our brand-new clinical facility. The role holder will play a key role within the School, contributing towards teaching on our clinical programmes.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking outstanding individuals with significant experience in general practice to help Bristol Dental School prepare our students for life in practice. The post involves contributing to teaching and clinical supervision. Additionally, the post holder may participate in patient assessment and emergency clinics, with opportunities to engage in academic duties and development.

Job responsibilities

This position is available at 0.2FTE. The focus is primarily on undergraduate and postgraduate clinical education, with potential contributions to educational research. We seek an outstanding individual with good general dental practice experience to contribute to teaching, supervision, and related academic duties. The role requires active, enthusiastic commitment to teaching and delivering high-quality student-led patient care. Excellent interpersonal skills to foster collaboration with existing teaching and research programmes are highly desirable.

  • Willingness to travel to and work at other sites as required by the role
  • Commitment to Primary Care Dentistry and whole patient care
  • Ability to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional, and national levels
Qualifications
  • BDS or equivalent
  • Full registration with the UK General Dental Council (GDC)
  • Membership of an appropriate Defence Society
  • MFDS/MJDF or equivalent
  • Higher Degree (e.g., MSc, DDS, PhD)
  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or qualification in Teaching and Learning (e.g., TLHP)
Experience
  • Current clinical practice in a General Dental Practice or PCDS setting
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement
  • Ability to prioritize, organize time effectively, and work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle setbacks
  • Ability to maintain clear and contemporaneous clinical notes
  • Broad IT skills
  • Involvement in clinical management

Salary ranges from £44,159 to £81,775 per year, depending on experience and qualifications; pro-rata if part-time.
