Job summary

Job description

A band 6 clinical lead in ED is responsible for delivering excellent care and maintaining clinical standards within the department.

You should have experience in this area of nursing and demonstrate effective leadership by providing guidance and support to all staff levels to ensure optimal standards of care.

You are expected to maintain a safe and clean environment and act as a deputy in the absence of the unit manager.

Professional Leadership/Management
  1. Coordinate the provision of high-quality patient care, ensuring the service meets patient needs.
  2. Ensure staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities.
  3. Operate the scheme of delegation as directed by the Ward/Department Manager, clarifying staff responsibilities and accountabilities.
  4. Train and educate all staff, including students, temporary, part-time nursing staff, and junior multidisciplinary team members, to deliver competent and timely care.
  5. Support staff to promote patient well-being and staff development.
  6. Assist with recruitment and selection of staff.
  7. Manage stock levels with the manager.
  8. Oversee staff cover, e.g., Duty Rota.
  9. Develop protocols within clinical areas.
  10. Safeguard patients' property.
  11. Supervise the utilization of nursing resources to provide safe patient care, considering staff preferences and financial constraints.
  12. Act as an effective role model for ward staff.
  13. Seek and incorporate patient/carer feedback into practice development.

Our services operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as community health facilities including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and RLI offer comprehensive hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various specialist services.

WGH provides general hospital services along with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions.

All hospitals offer outpatient, diagnostic, therapy, day case, and inpatient surgery services, along with outreach services across Morecambe Bay.
