We are looking for someone who is keen to gain experience leading high quality care and work within a diverse community and workforce.
The successful candidate will have proven clinical leadership skills and experience across cardiorespiratory services in acute in- and out-patient settings, with demonstrable compassionate and inclusive leadership skills. They will also have evident research and education experience, alongside experience in implementing change and innovation in clinical practice.
Part-time and flexible working will be considered and the successful candidate will be encouraged and supportedto undertake a suitable accredited senior leadership apprenticeship.
Main duties of the job
The role involves leading a team of dedicated physiotherapists, speech and language and occupational therapists to drive forward the development of cardiorespiratory clinical practice, research and standards of care. You will contribute to service evolution, in collaboration with colleagues across Clinical Groups and sites. The post has an active physiotherapy clinical component, holding a complex clinical caseload commensurate with grade and ensuring strong oversight of patient needs. The area of specialism is open for discussion.
You will be responsible for leading the operational delivery, clinical governance and development of the physiotherapy, speech and language and occupational therapy teams within the Heart, Lung and Critical Care Clinical Group at St. Thomas' and Guy's Hospitals sites, serving the local community and South East Region of England. You will drive quality and ensure equity of care for all patients with cardiorespiratory need across all Clinical Groups, and contribute to the development of a creative, resilient and productive trust-wide Therapies workforce.
You will be expected to work closely in partnership with the Senior Consultant Physiotherapist, Heads of Profession and Chief AHP, to inform the development of trust-wide cardiorespiratory therapies strategy and support the development of knowledge, an inquiring culture and research activity.

- To work in partnership with the Senior Consultant Physiotherapist to evolve respiratory physiotherapy services to meet local, regional and national requirements and priorities.
- To work in partnership within the organisation, with the Senior Consultant Physiotherapist and across the broader system, influencing and shaping new models of care.
- To foster and take innovative approaches to the development of respiratory physiotherapy service delivery amongst multiple teams locally and regionally.
- To be a consultant, expert practitioner in physiotherapy provision to patients in specialist area(s) of respiratory physiotherapy practice. Working with an advanced level of professional autonomy, accountability and scope of practice in the provision of clinical care for rehabilitation and management of chronic cardiorespiratory conditions.
- To have a leading role in the development of quality improvement and research in area of clinical practice and / or service areas across the organisation
- To lead, develop and support staff within the respiratory physiotherapy services, clinically and professionally at a local level and to advise nationally.
- To work in collaboration with academic institutions to help determine and define education, training, research and practice development requirements in an area of practice and / or across a range of respiratory physiotherapy services.

- First degree in physiotherapy and HCPC registration
- Evidence of expert clinical and professional development and training in respiratory physiotherapy practice
- Recognised post-graduate study at M-level (e.g. MSc)
- Member of relevant multi professional interest group
- PhD or equivalent level of knowledge/expertise in field evidenced by post graduate clinical academic profile
- Experience of leading patient consultations, diagnostics and management plans as lead clinician within an multi-disciplinary team
- Proven leadership and evidence of team management and supervision
- Significant experience of service development/re-modelling/transformation
- Experience of clinical education, teaching and training undergraduate and post-graduate students across professions.
- A proven track record and demonstrable research/QI experience, knowledge and skills
- Previous experience at Clinical Lead or Consultant level
- Significant experience of lecturing in national and international arenas to multi-professional groups
- Evidence of submission of competitive grant applications
- Expert theoretical and practical knowledge of a wide range of approaches to the management of patients with a sub-speciality of respiratory conditions acquired through extensive experience as an autonomous clinical expert
- Able to demonstrate leadership ability with multi-professional teams
- Able to communicate intelligently and with clarity in written and spoken English in a variety of settings using a variety of media
- Ability to manage change and contain conflict ensuring resolution with positive outcomes
