Job overview
We have an exciting fixed term opportunity to jointly lead our established Intensive Support Team (IST) for adults with Learning Disabilities in Southwark. The IST is a small MDT led by a full time 8b Lead Psychologist within the Mental Health Learning Disabilities (MHLD) Service in South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The advertised post is 0.4wte to cover a 2-day secondment that is being taken up by the current post-holder in the ICB until 31/3/26. The post holder will remain in post for 0.6wte. It is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside an experienced 8b IST Lead Psychologist, and to be part of both the IST provision, as well as the wider MHLD psychology and behaviour support provision in Southwark, led by the Borough Lead Consultant Psychologist.
The multi-disciplinary IST team provides intensive support to adults with Learning Disabilities, whose behaviour places them at risk of hospital admission or placement breakdown. The team is part of the community Mental Health in Learning Disability (MHLD) department in South London and Maudsley NHS Trust and works closely with the community learning disabilities team and other agencies. The Lead IST role is full time and involves coordinating clinical delivery of the IST MDT and leading the psychological and behaviour support services.
Main duties of the job
Job Purpose:
· To develop, coordinate, and oversee the MDT service at Southwark IST and provide highly specialist clinical input in psychological and behavioural support.
· To work towards creating a psychologically safe environment that enables staff, service users, and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish.
· To provide clinical supervision and consultation, functioning as a lead specialist working with adults with learning disabilities requiring intensive support.
· To ensure systems are in place for effective professional supervision of psychological practitioners within the IST.
· To promote service evaluation, audit, research, and policy development.
· To work autonomously within professional guidelines, interpreting policies within set parameters.
· To collaborate with the clinical/professional lead to achieve desired outcomes.
· To support staff coordination, working with Corporate Psychology and Psychotherapy to ensure access to evidence-based support for colleagues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Client Care
· To develop, coordinate, and deliver a highly specialist MDT service.
· To lead psychological and behavioural support for the Southwark IST.
· To conduct complex psychological assessments and interventions for adults with learning disabilities.
· To provide culturally appropriate interventions with clients and their families.
· To assess and manage risks, developing appropriate plans.
· To produce reports to inform referrers and families.
· To select and deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, monitoring and adapting as necessary.
· To promote psychological support for families and networks.
· To oversee multi-agency care plans as a carer co-ordinator.
Team or service clinical functioning
· To coordinate and chair team meetings, ensuring effective functioning.
· To ensure a psychologically informed framework within the team.
· To develop services to be accessible and culturally competent.
· To advise on psychological care and liaise with referrers and professionals.
· To utilize research and evidence to support practice.
· To liaise with the MDT and other professionals.
Policy and service development
· To implement policies and identify areas for improvement.
· To lead service development projects and implement new initiatives.
· To involve service users in planning and delivering services.
Resource management
· To manage equipment and resources carefully.
· To ensure sufficient resources and safe use of equipment.
· To maintain confidential storage of therapeutic artefacts.

· To provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior staff and trainees.
