Job summary

A reputable healthcare organization is seeking a Clinical Lead Psychiatrist to oversee the Autism and ADHD assessment service. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to act as Clinical Lead for our NHS-commissioned Autism and ADHD assessment service for individuals aged 16 and over. This role involves providing clinical oversight, carrying out specialist psychiatric assessments, and supporting a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, accurate, and timely diagnoses in line with NICE guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

·Provide clinical leadership and oversight of Autism and ADHD Assessments

·Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including diagnostic interviews for ADHD and differential diagnosis support for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

·Contribute to multidisciplinary diagnostic formulations and provide second opinions where needed.

·Support the development and implementation of robust clinical protocols and quality assurance processes.

·Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with GMC and GDPR standards.

·GMC-registered with a licence to practise.

·Section 12 approval (or working towards it).

·Extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of ADHD and ASD in young people and adults.

·Experience in psychopharmacology relevant to ADHD.

·Demonstrable experience of clinical leadership in neurodevelopmental or mental health services.

·Excellent communication, clinical reasoning, and report-writing skills.

·Familiarity with tools such as DIVA-5 and other structured diagnostic assessments.

Qualifications and Experience

·Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent)

·Completion of core psychiatry training (CT1–CT3) and higher specialty training (ST4–ST6), leading to a CCT in General Adult Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or Learning Disability Psychiatry. Completion leads to CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in Psychiatry.

·Section 12 Approval (Mental Health Act) – though not prescribing

·Extensive Experience in Neurodevelopmental Assessment and Post Qualifying Training in Autism

·Substantial clinical experience in assessing and diagnosing Autism and ADHD, particularly in individuals aged 16+.

·Familiarity with differential diagnosis, co-occurring conditions (e.g. anxiety, personality disorders, trauma), and prescribing treatment for ADHD in accordance with NICE Guidelines.

·Training in ADOS-2, ADI-R and DIVA Essential

·Leadership and Clinical Governance Expertise

·Experience in leading or supervising a clinical team or service, ideally in

·Mental health or neurodevelopmental services

·NHS or NHS-commissioned services

·Responsible for upholding clinical quality, patient safety, supervision, and service outcomes.

·Multidisciplinary Team Leadership

·Proven ability to work collaboratively within and lead multidisciplinary diagnostic teams (MDTs) including psychologists, OTs, social workers, and SLTs.

·Comfortable contributing to or chairing case discussions, diagnostic decisions, and governance reviews.

Remuneration: Competitive rates per assessment/report. Flexible workload based on availability
