Job summary

Are you a pharmacist passionate about education and shaping the future pharmacy workforce?

Swansea Bay are proud to advertise a third teacher practitioner post for the MPharm programme run by Swansea University Medical School. Time is split equally between Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) and Swansea University, providing an excellent opportunity for an advanced practice pharmacist to develop an academic career in clinical education.

The successful applicant will lead clinical placement provision throughout the newly developed MPharm programme, supporting undergraduates to gain competence and confidence in clinical pharmacy and in the application of high quality pharmaceutical care to patients. They will be an honorary member of the University team, supporting the development, delivery and assessment of course content and a core leader in executing the new GPhC Standards for the Initial Education and Training Standards for Pharmacists, including prescribing and digital competency.

The post holder will become a member of an expanding and award winning team of core educators across the SBUHB pharmacy division and be a role model for the profession and a champion for education. They will also have the opportunity to support our growing portfolio of education programmes, including nursing, foundation and post-registration pharmacy.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work collaboratively with Health Board sites, Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) and Swansea University to ensure the successful delivery of the new Funded Pharmacy Undergraduate Placement Programme (FPUPP) in Wales.

They will work across two Organisations; Swansea University Medical School (MPharm course) as an honorary lecturer and Swansea Bay University Health Board as an advanced clinical pharmacist and education lead. Clinical services will include ward based clinical care, dispensary sessions and prescribing services where applicable at our Singleton hospital site.

Due to existing and future transformation plans in Wales, the teacher practitioner position will be dynamic and stimulating. Our undergraduate programme is multi-site and multi-sector, requiring cross site and sector engagement. The successful candidate will require exceptional communication, interpersonal and influencing skills to navigate the changing landscape in education, to ensure optimal outcomes for Swansea Bay pharmacy. They will also need to demonstrate the ability to work flexibly and to succeed in this role be a strong team player.

The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with existing and future teacher practitioner roles to ensure smooth programme delivery and there will be mentoring and development opportunities depending on applicant need and career prospects.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to work with educators and managers across acute hospital sites, sectors and organisations, including acute and primary care, Welsh Universities and HEIW. They will also collaborate with other professional group leads (medical, nursing and allied health professions) in the planning and delivery of multi-professional education.

There is an expectation to work bank holidays, weekends, and out of hours in line with Singleton rota requirements.

  • Experience of teaching / training pharmacy undergraduates in clinical practice.
