Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Lead to join our expanding team at Primary Eyecare Services!

About Us:

Primary Eyecare Services (PES) is an established provider of high-quality extended eye care services (beyond sight testing), utilizing a large network of optical practice subcontractors across England (~2000). PES manages contracts on behalf of the primary eye care network, spanning ~70 NHS commissioners and delivering over 380,000 episodes of patient care annually, with a total turnover of ~£25+ million. PES is a not-for-profit company, with most income reinvested into frontline eye care services.

Role Overview:

The Clinical Lead will be embedded in local clinical networks to support service development and delivery. Responsibilities include working with the PES contract manager and clinical team for monitoring service provision, including mobilisation, auditing, and performance monitoring. Collaboration with LOCs to develop and maintain local services is essential. The role involves supporting practices and hospitals to ensure optimal involvement in service delivery across localities.

Salary:

FTE salary £60,000 (pro rata). The position is predominantly home-based, with occasional attendance at the PES Head Office in Manchester, M4 6LN, including two full days for induction. Practice visits in the North East will also be required.

General Responsibilities:
  1. Play a key role in mobilising new services, including presenting service pathways.
  2. Develop service pathways with local stakeholders.
  3. Support the development of clinical pathways and protocols.
  4. Build strong relationships with stakeholders such as LOCs and clinicians.
  5. Support practice-based and clinical queries.
  6. Act as a point of contact for commissioners and contract managers.
  7. Engage with primary and secondary care providers.
  8. Assist contract managers with service performance reports.
  9. Implement service improvements based on stakeholder feedback.
  10. Work closely with Local Optical Committees and LOCSU on service development.
  11. Conduct ongoing audits and outlier investigations, providing anonymised data reports.
  12. Monitor and manage the performance of optometric subcontractors.
  13. Support performance management interventions for outlier practices.
  14. Design communication materials for subcontractors.
  15. Identify training needs and organise peer supervision for optometrists.
  16. Ensure patient and peer feedback informs service improvement.
  17. Manage protocols for incident reporting and learning.
  18. Visit practices as required.
  19. The organisation reserves the right to vary duties as needed.
Shift Pattern:

This is a part-time role, 21 hours per week over 3 days. Further details to be discussed during the interview.

  • CPD/CET evidence per GOC regulations (essential)

Experience:
