We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Lead to join our expanding team at Primary Eyecare Services!

About Us:

Primary Eyecare Services (PES) is an established provider of high-quality extended eye care services (beyond sight testing), utilizing a large network of optical practice subcontractors across England (~2000). PES manages contracts on behalf of the primary eye care network, spanning ~70 NHS commissioners and delivering over 380,000 episodes of patient care annually, with a total turnover of approximately £25+ million. PES is a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee, ensuring most income is reinvested into frontline eye care services.

Role Overview:

The Clinical Lead will be embedded in local clinical networks to support the development and delivery of new and existing services. Responsibilities include working with the PES contract manager and clinical team for daily service monitoring, including mobilisation, auditing, and performance tracking. The role involves collaborating with LOCs to support new service development and maintaining local service delivery, ensuring practices and hospitals are involved effectively across a locality.

Salary & Work Pattern:

FTE salary: £60,000 (pro-rata). The role is predominantly home-based, with occasional attendance at the PES Head Office in Manchester, M4 6LN. Induction requires two full days on-site. Practice visits in the Midlands may also be required.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Mobilise new services and present service pathways.
  2. Develop service pathways with local stakeholders.
  3. Support development of clinical pathways and protocols.
  4. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders such as LOCs and clinicians.
  5. Be the point of contact for practice-based and clinical queries.
  6. Support contract managers with performance reports.
  7. Implement service improvements based on stakeholder feedback.
  8. Collaborate with Local Optical Committees and LOCSU on service development.
  9. Conduct ongoing audits and outlier investigations, providing anonymised data reports.
  10. Monitor and manage the performance of optometric subcontractors.
  11. Support performance management interventions for outlier practices.
  12. Design communications for subcontractors, e.g., newsletters.
  13. Identify training needs and facilitate peer supervision for optometrists.
  14. Ensure patient and peer feedback informs service improvements.
  15. Manage critical incident reporting protocols and learning.
  16. Visit practices as required.
  17. Note: Duties may vary during employment to meet organisational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified optometrist or Dispensing Optician GOC Registered (essential)
  • CPD/CET evidence per GOC regulations (essential)
  • Completion of the CGPL LOCSU course (essential)

Experience:

  • Community optometry service delivery (desirable)
  • Managing audits and quality issues (desirable)
  • Developing and commissioning new services (desirable)
