Job description

Clinical Lead (GP, Psychiatrist or Addiction Specialist Doctor) - Smithfield
Job Introduction

Clinical Lead - Smithfield In Patient Detoxification Service

Turning Point is a leading Social Enterprise supporting individuals with complex needs across Learning Disabilities, Mental Health, Substance Use, and Public Health.

We are recruiting a doctor to serve as the Clinical Lead for our in-patient unit at Smithfield in Manchester. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of those experiencing difficulties related to drugs and alcohol.

The position is part-time, overseeing admissions and clinical care of residents, providing clinical leadership, training, and supervision for clinical staff.

We seek a passionate individual eager to develop their career within a social enterprise that reinvests all profits into care. If you're ambitious and ready for a new challenge, this could be the ideal role for you.

The Clinical Lead should be a specialist in addiction treatment, with experience preferred but not mandatory in an in-patient setting.

Applications are welcomed from Addiction Psychiatrists or General Practitioners with a Specialist Interest in Addiction. Please contact us for an informal discussion if unsure about your fit for this role.

The role involves 22.5 hours per week, typically 4 hours daily.

Role Responsibilities

You will provide safe, effective, evidence-based care to service users, many with co-occurring conditions. Your duties include overseeing detoxification and stabilization regimes for substances like alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines, among others.

You will lead clinical governance, supervise staff, facilitate training, and contribute to service development. Collaboration with clinical colleagues across Turning Point and participation in peer support networks are essential.

Extensive experience in the substance use field is required, with a focus on delivering high-quality clinical interventions. You will work closely with the management team, clinical staff, local healthcare professionals, and stakeholders to provide holistic care before, during, and after admission.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape service delivery, introduce clinical innovations, and enhance service quality.

The Ideal Candidate

Turning Point values ongoing professional development, offering supervision, CPD programs, and support with appraisals and revalidation. Joining us means receiving comprehensive training and support in a dynamic environment.

Our Clinical Leads benefit from regular meetings, providing peer support and shared learning opportunities.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in addiction medicine at a leadership level, ideally as a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist or a General Practitioner with relevant experience and qualifications per RCPsych/RCGP frameworks.
  • Current GMC Registration
  • Proven ability to deliver safe, effective, evidence-based assessments and interventions for substance users
  • The legal right to work in the UK

We also value alignment with Turning Point’s core values, which include growth, authentic communication, embracing change, treating individuals with respect, fostering innovation, and building a sustainable organization.
