The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1952, it has over 55,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession, providing some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and addressing 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population.
One of the College's key strategic aims is to tackle the barriers faced by our International Medical Graduate (IMG) members and to increase their satisfaction, engagement, and retention. To help us achieve this aim, the RCGP's Education and Standards Directorate is looking to recruit a ‘subject expert’ who can advise us on the development of the College's support and provision for IMG registrars throughout postgraduate training.
The Clinical Lead for IMG GP Registrars will help improve the College's understanding of the challenges IMG registrars face throughout GP training, the support we offer to overseas doctors coming to work in the UK, and our offer for IMG registrars. This work will help us address the challenges of differential attainment and lead to improved examinations and training outcomes for IMG registrars.
As a standing member of the RCGP and on the GP register, with prior involvement with the RCGP’s work, the successful applicant will demonstrate a broad knowledge of postgraduate general practice training and an understanding of the IMG experience in General Practice, specifically within the training system. They will have successfully developed and led programmes and networks to support IMGs and overseas doctors, both individually and by working with and supporting others.
The successful applicant will share our corporate values. In return, the College offers excellent terms and conditions and a great working environment.
