Clinical lead Dietitian (GAS)

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Dietitian to continue with delivering the Nutritional Services for the Gender Affirmation Surgery (GAS) service within the Trust on our Chelsea site. This established role, in place for the last 2 years, is required 2 days (15 hours) a week (Wednesday & Thursdays). Initially 1 year fixed contract.

The post holder will be responsible for engaging with the Gender affirmation MDT and service to review and improve suitable pathways for nutritional intervention for this affirmation surgery. They will carry a case load to deliver nutritional pre-op and post op advice and applyappropriate, patient-centered and compassionate care where nutritional interventions are beneficial. This population often requires nutritional advice and support for issues with weight management (loss and gain), disordered eating and body changes associated with gender dysphoria, blood lipid and sugar abnormalities, blood pressure, impact of hormone therapy on shape and bloods and general wellbeing. In addition, they will be required to set up audit, reviews and feedback to further the development of good practice and clinical effectiveness of the Dietetic GAS service.

Applicants should have extensive clinical experience in dietetics, understand service needs for such a service and have experience of leading service improvement and engaging with senior stake holders to influence change.

Job responsibilities

• To be the Dietetic expert clinician for Gender Alignment services
• To take an active role within the Gender Alignment services multidisciplinary team and contribute dietetically towards the Gender Alignment services
• To contribute to regular managerial and clinical problem-solving and supervision of band 7 clinicians within dedicated teams.
• To work alongside the Inpatient Dietetic Clinical Leads to initiate and manage clinical service development initiatives, implementing and sustaining change where necessary.
• To utilise expert clinical reasoning and specialist skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in your dedicated clinical area and to provide specialist support and advice to other Dietetic staff whilst maintaining a caseload as an autonomous practitioner which includes highly complex patients.
• To utilise evidence based principles and current best practise guidelines
• To participate in CPD and other developmental activities
• To educate the multi-disciplinary team, Dietitians in the Trust and Dietitians nationally (as appropriate) on elements of Dietetics in your designated clinical area, and raise the profile of the Dietetic service in your designated clinical area within the service and Trust.
• To ensure that the Dieteticservice in the designated clinical area is responsive to user requirements within the available resources and in accordance with directorate and departmental plans.

• Significant post registration experience as a Band 7/8a in relevant clinical areas that are required for this role.
• Experience of team management in an NHS healthcare setting at band 7 / 8 level
• Evidence of supervision of more junior staff
• Leadership and participation of teaching/in-service programmes
• Demonstrable experience of audit in evaluating and developing a service
• Teaching experience to a broad range of clinicians and students
• Evidence of close working with all members of the multidisciplinary team
• Highly specialist knowledge of a range of conditions and treatments relevant to clinical area.
• Previous lecturing on external courses
• Liaising with external stakeholders and influencing decision making of senior leaders
