Role Brief

The Clinical Lead (ANP/GP) will provide senior clinical oversight for Virtual Primary Care and Mental Health services, ensuring the highest standards of clinical governance, service quality, and patient safety. This role involves covering a variety of shifts, providing direct clinical support, and leading a multidisciplinary team of GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), and mental health professionals. Additionally, the Clinical Lead will serve as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring compliance with safeguarding protocols and best practices across services.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Leadership & Service Oversight
  • Provide senior clinical oversight and support across Virtual Primary Care and Mental Health services.
  • Lead a team of GPs, ANPs, and mental health clinicians, offering guidance, supervision, and case reviews.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex clinical cases, supporting safe and effective patient care.
  • Ensure adherence to clinical governance frameworks, including CQC, GMC, NMC, and HCPC standards.
  • Implement evidence-based protocols and guidelines to drive service excellence.
  • Support the integration of primary care and mental health pathways, ensuring seamless patient transitions.
  • Direct Clinical Support & Shift Coverage
  • Provide clinical consultations in virtual settings across a range of shifts, including urgent care, routine appointments, and mental health assessments.
  • Perform triage, diagnosis, and treatment planning for a diverse patient population.
  • Supervise advanced practice clinicians and ensure high standards of care delivery.
  • Support crisis intervention and risk management in mental health cases.
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Responsibilities
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Virtual Primary Care and Mental Health services.
  • Ensure robust safeguarding policies and procedures are in place and followed by all clinicians.
  • Lead on safeguarding training, case reviews, and serious incident management.
  • Liaise with external safeguarding agencies, social services, and regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Oversee safeguarding audits, compliance reporting, and multi-agency collaborations.
  • Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance & Training
  • Lead clinical audits, peer reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure clinicians adhere to regulatory requirements and maintain high-quality documentation.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to GPs, ANPs, and mental health professionals.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on safeguarding, clinical best practices, and digital healthcare protocols.
  • Oversee incident reporting, risk assessments, and service evaluations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Digital Health & Service Development
  • Collaborate with digital health teams to enhance virtual consultation models and clinical workflows.
  • Support AI-driven triage systems, electronic health record (EHR) optimization, and telehealth protocols.
  • Identify service innovation opportunities to improve patient access, efficiency, and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Registered GP (GMC) or ANP (NMC) with extensive primary care experience.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Advanced Practice, Leadership, or Clinical Governance (Desirable).
  • Safeguarding Lead Training (or willingness to undertake).
  • Experience in digital health, telemedicine, or virtual clinical service models.
  • Strong background in mental health integration within primary care settings.
  • Senior clinical experience as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) or General Practitioner (GP).

Desirable

  • Strong leadership in virtual healthcare, telemedicine, and multidisciplinary team management.
  • Expertise in safeguarding policies, child/adult protection frameworks, and risk management.
  • Experience with clinical governance, CQC compliance, and quality assurance processes
  • Ability to work across varied shifts, including evenings and weekends, ensuring senior clinical coverage.
  • Proficiency in EHR systems, digital consultation tools, and virtual healthcare platforms.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and crisis management skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) and training initiatives.
