Clinical Healthcare Support Worker - Dermatology Outpatients

We're looking for individuals with healthcare experience to join our Dermatology team.

The Dermatology outpatient clinics see adults and paediatrics, both acute and emergency cases. The services include skin surgery, skin cancer assessment, patch testing, the management of inflammatory skin conditions including phototherapy and topical treatments.

In this role you will be supporting registered nurses to deliver high quality, compassionate healthcare to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan. Your daily duties will be varied to include:

  • Helping patients to wash, to assist with the application of topical medication
  • Set up and close clinics, ensure equipment is ready to use and stock levels are maintained
  • Contribute to patient assessments such as blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation levels, body temperature, medical photography, Blood glucose, urinalysis and pregnancy testing
  • Recording your actions accurately in patient notes.
  • Assisting in various clinics such as minor surgical procedures, patch testing, treatment room, skin cancer assessment.

You will start on our induction programme to help you settle into the Royal United Hospitals Bath and you will learn the skills you need to do this role.

Main duties of the job

The skills we are looking for:

  • You need to be able to understand and communicate both verbally and in writing in English
  • You don't need any formal qualifications in maths, but you will need to have numerical and analytic skills to do patient observations
  • You will need to have a customer focused approach which is essential to providing patients with the best possible experience
  • You will need to be able to use IT systems and databases
  • You will have the skill to focus on the details with the ability to spot problems.
  • You will know when you are able to correct or when to escalate.

Qualifications
  • oA Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) Level 3. This could be an NVQ, BTEC or equivalent international qualification in healthcare.
  • oAble to demonstrate knowledge and skills gained through the equivalent level of employment experience.
  • oCare certificate
  • oCompetent in venepuncture
Knowledge and experience
  • oAble to understand and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
  • oNumerical and analytic skills to do patient observations
  • oPrevious experience working in healthcare
  • oAble to work in a team environment
