The Charity
We are St Andrew's. We are a mental health charity committed to inspiring hope for those living with complex mental health needs.
We aim to reduce stigma, increase community support, and advance research and education to foster societal acceptance and support for individuals with complex mental health needs.
Join us to support transforming lives.
You will join a team of over 20 Consultant Psychologists and 50 registered Psychologists across three sites (Northampton, Birmingham, Essex) and our Community Partnerships division. There are ample opportunities for professional support and career progression.
The Learning Disability and Autism Division provides specialized assessment and treatment for individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or autism with comorbid mental health, neurodevelopmental, and challenging behaviors requiring hospital treatment. We seek a HCPC-registered applied psychologist (Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic) to join our team, serving over 100 patients.
You will work clinically within a large multidisciplinary team, including psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, social work, adult education, CAPS, vocation training, and physical health teams.
Your responsibilities include assessing, formulating, delivering treatment, and evaluating clinical outcomes. Treatments are based on a broad cognitive-behavioral model, emphasizing psychotherapy addressing autism and intellectual disability impairments, emotional and psychiatric disorders, and offense-related interventions to reduce recidivism. Clinical risk assessment and management are key components, utilizing standardized methods.
You will also support and develop ward practices within the MDT and may work with patients transitioning to the community, helping prepare them for this step.
Experience working with individuals diagnosed with Autism and/or Learning Disability, as well as major mental illnesses, trauma, and offending behaviors, is advantageous. You will have access to a broader network of psychologists for consultation, and there are opportunities for research and development.
Our patients and colleagues expect you to embody St Andrew’s CARE values: Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
