Main duties of the job

Including this post, there are 16 registrars. Many patients have shared care, particularly those with special needs or child protection issues.

Doctor will be expected to show qualities of leadership but also to know their limitations and call for help and advice appropriatelyTrainees will also begin to work independentlyLiaise between nurses, other junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staffAttend to the day to day management of day case, out-patient and in-patientsAttend and participate in ward rounds and operating theatre sessions as timetabledAttend general and specialist out-patient, diagnostic and pre-assessment clinicsTeach medical students as directedSupervise, monitor and assist the F2 doctors & ST1-2 in post take ward rounds as part of the rostered emergency workTo keep up-to date with all administrative duties including letters, results and discharge summaries as requiredStudy for higher examinations and maintain continued professional development

Person Specification

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent.
• Full Registration with the General Medical Council
• Evidence of achievement of Level 1 paediatric capabilities by intended start date as detailed in the Paediatric RCPCH Progress Curriculum
• MRCPCH or equivalent

Experience

• At least 3 years previous experience at SpR (ie ST1-ST8) or equivalent level
• A minimum of 12 months Paediatric experience, outside of the UK Foundation programme or equivalent
• Ability to develop and maintain a sub-specialty interest
