Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Clinical Fellow (ST2) in Paediatrics for a 12-month fixed-term post at Basildon Hospital. You will work under supervision with consultants and trainees to gain broad exposure to acute and general paediatrics.

The role includes an educational programme, one-to-one supervision, and support to undertake MRCPCH examinations. A supportive department aims to develop your paediatric career.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification is required.
• Full GMC registration is required.
• MRCPCH - part 1 or equivalent Paediatric post-graduate qualification.
• APLS or EPLS NLS required.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, diagnosis and ongoing management of children and young people across wards and ED.
• Deliver care within the Neonatal Unit including Level 2 NICU care.
• Undertake newborn resuscitation and initial management of common neonatal conditions with supervision.
• Assess and manage paediatric patients in outpatient clinics under consultant supervision.
• Participate in teaching and support junior doctors, students and nursing staff.
• Engage in simulation, SLEs, meetings, audits and quality improvement activities.

Clinical Fellow (ST2) - Paediatrics (Fixed Term, 12 Months)

The Paediatric Department at Basildon Hospital, Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking enthusiastic Clinical Fellows (ST2 level) to join our team on a full-time, fixed-term basis to cover a 12-month maternity leave period.

Working alongside a dedicated team of consultants, specialty trainees, Foundation Year doctors and GP trainees, you will gain broad exposure to both acute and general paediatrics while delivering high-quality care to children and their families. Your clinical duties will be undertaken under the supervision of experienced consultants who hold overall responsibility for patient care.

Main duties of the job

Provide assessment, diagnosis and ongoing management of children and young people across the Children's Ward, Paediatric Assessment Unit and Paediatric Emergency Department, including participation in emergency and resuscitation scenarios.

Deliver care within the Neonatal Unit, including the Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Labour Ward and Postnatal Ward, supporting the stabilisation and management of premature and unwell newborn infants.

Undertake newborn resuscitation and initial management of common neonatal conditions with appropriate senior support and supervision.

Assess and manage paediatric patients in outpatient clinics under the supervision and guidance of a Consultant Paediatrician.

Participate actively in the department's teaching programme, providing education and support to junior doctors, medical students and nursing staff through bedside teaching and formal presentations.

Engage in simulation training, supervised learning events (SLEs), departmental meetings, clinical audit and quality improvement activities to support professional development and service excellence.

Contribute to the assessment and management of safeguarding concerns, working closely with Consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Work collaboratively with Consultants, Middle Grade Doctors, Nurses, Community Teams and other multidisciplinary colleagues.
