NHS Grampian is looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Fellow for a 1-year fixed term position specializing in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery. The successful candidate will gain extensive hands-on experience in a supportive environment, while balancing work and family life in the scenic Morayshire area. This role will involve both trauma and elective surgeries, with opportunities for career progression and training in specialized qualifications.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Fellow who is keen to progress in their career in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery.
The job will be primarily based at Dr. Gray’s Hospital but with flexibility to gain further exposure at tertiary hospital level at Woodend Hospital and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
This is in conjunction with a workforce expansion programme that is aimed to address the elective waiting list backlog and meet the increasing demands at NHS Grampian.
The post is fixed term for a 1 year period from the start date.
The post will provide both Trauma and Elective experience to the successful candidate in a moderately busy district hospital in the heart of the beautiful Morayshire where a good balance between work and family life is on offer. Morayshire offers ample activities for outdoor pursuits and sport activities including surfing and other water sports, motocross, trekking, golf and tennis among others. Elgin within a few minutes’ drive to the scenic north-eastern coastline, from Lossiemouth to Roseisle, and beyond.
Dr Gray’s provides the generality of Trauma Service for both adult and paediatric patients. The focus of elective service is lower limb arthroplasty, including navigated total knee replacement. There will also be exposure to soft tissue knee surgery, foot and ankle surgery, and general hand and upper limb surgery. Tertiary level work including revision surgery in available at Woodend Hospital where robotic arthroplasty recently started.
The successful candidates will be part of the middle-grade which will run an on-call rota of 1:8. The middle -grade on-call involves cross cover with general surgery that is strictly restricted to out of hours only.
You will have a well-structured work pattern suited to your level of experience to be designed and agreed with the clinical lead. There will be specific allocation for Trauma Theatre, Elective Theatre, Fracture Clinic, Adult Clinic, Paediatric Clinic, Shoulder Clinic and Foot & Ankle Clinic.

You will be expected to provide supervision and teaching to junior staff in the team, and contribute to quality improvement work.
A minimum 6 months experience at FY2 level working in the UK is essential.
MRCS and FRCS qualifications are desirable but not essential. Support for the acquisition of these qualifications will be available on the job including access to the post-graduate teaching for the North of Scotland specialist trainees.
This post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
