A leading healthcare organization in Scotland is hiring for a fixed-term FY2 level post for 6 months to provide day-time and out-of-hours care for obstetric and gynaecological inpatients. Candidates will join a team of junior doctors and have opportunities to attend out-patient clinics and assist in theatre. GMC registration is required, and a Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training may be necessary depending on experience. This position includes a full-shift working pattern.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff across clinical and non‑clinical professions. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern for this post is worked on shifts. This is a fixed‑term post for 6 months. Please note the salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours. 1 × FY2 level posts are available until early February 2026. This post is based in the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, and the successful candidate will join a team of 15 junior doctors in providing day‑time and out‑of‑hours care for obstetric and gynaecological inpatients. Doctors on this rota are supported by consultants and specialist trainees.
There is good opportunity for attendance at out‑patient clinics (antenatal and gynaecology) and assisting in theatre. The amount of exposure to out‑patients and theatre will depend on the career aspirations of the individual. Some out‑patient clinics and all day‑surgery lists are performed at Stobhill ACH. The rota is compliant with the EWTD and the New Deal Band 1B. This post does not have educational approval and will not be recognised for training, although the post holder will be offered the same opportunities for education as the other training post holders at an equivalent level.
To practice medicine in the UK you need to hold both GMC registration and a licence to practice.
Providing day‑time and out‑of‑hours care for obstetric and gynaecological inpatients, assessing admissions, organising and collating test results, completing discharge summaries, attending out‑patient clinics, assisting in theatre, and participating in day‑surgery lists at Stobhill ACH. A full‑shift working pattern with residency on duty will be required, with all shift duties compliant with the EWTD.
Applicants who have not undertaken a UK foundation programme within 3.5 years of the advertised post start date will be asked to submit a Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training (CREST). The CREST form must be completed by a consultant who has worked with you for a minimum continuous period of three months whole‑time equivalent wholly within the 3.5 years prior to the advertised post start date for which you are applying.
