Salary: £64,062 per annum

Contract Type: Fixed Term (12 months)

About The Role

NHS Supply Chain is seeking a clinically qualified and passionate health care professional who is looking for a new challenge to join NHS Supply Chain as a Clinical Fellow, focused on maternity services. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of developing our strategic thinking to support maternity services across England. Spending time with clinical and procurement colleagues evaluating new and emerging maternity products, engaging with NHS clinicians, and helping shape the national landscape of maternity care product and medical devices provision. Ensuring our health care products offer to maternity departments expands and developed in line with what the NHS needs.

As a Clinical Fellow, you will work with our Head of Clinical Professional Standards and a multi-disciplinary team within our commercial directorate to support the delivery of safe, effective, and innovative products to NHS trusts maternity departments across England. You will act as a bridge between clinical practice and supply chain functions—ensuring maternity products meet the needs of women and people having babies and their families, clinicians, and service leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a curated “core list” of promising and emerging maternity innovations, products, and technologies based on the needs of maternity departments across the NHS in England.
  • Collaborate with maternity clinicians, NHS trusts, professional bodies and supplier partners to understand current needs and future priorities.
  • Support product evaluations through healthcare professional engagement, real-world testing, data collection, and clinical feedback.
  • Contribute to evidence-based recommendations for procurement decisions and service improvement.
  • Present findings to internal teams and external stakeholders, including NHS trusts and maternity and clinical networks.

What We’re Looking For

  • A clinically registered professional (e.g., midwife, neonatal, obstetrician, GP with maternity interest, or nurse) with current or recent NHS experience.
  • Strong understanding of maternity care pathways and challenges within NHS settings.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • An interest in innovation, clinical and quality procurement/product evaluation, and service improvement.
  • Experience in audit, research, evaluation, or quality improvement is desirable.

  • A clinically registered professional (e.g., doctor, nurse, AHP, or public health specialist) with recent NHS experience.
  • A solid understanding of population health principles, health inequalities, and system-level data trends.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and explain complex datasets in clinical and practical terms.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working across systems or in integrated care settings is desirable.
