Job overview

The Department of Urology at University College Hospital is looking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated Clinical Fellow for a fixed term of 12 months from April/May 2025 in the Stones and Endourology department. The successful candidate will be joining the largest and most prestigious Urological Department in the UK. We are a highly specialist department seeing referrals from across the UK and abroad as well as being a centre for excellence and research.

The successful candidate will work in the Stones and Endourology team. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in providing pioneering new treatments and play a key role in ensuring excellent care for patients under the care of the department.

The consultants and their specialties are:

  • Ms Sian Allen - Consultant Urologist
  • Mr Vimoshan Arumuham - Consultant Urologist
  • Mr Simon Choong - Consultant Urologist
  • Mr Giorgio Mazzon - Consultant Urologist
  • Mr Daron Smith - Consultant Urologist

The unit consists of five consultants, three clinical fellows and three clinical nurse specialists.

The post holder will provide a safe and effective service for patients under the supervision of the Consultant Urologist. They will undertake theatre lists, clinics and other clinical activities. The post holder will lead on the management of inpatients and undertake on-call for the department as required.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Fellow will have primary responsibility for all patients admitted under the Stones service, the day-to-day care of the patients and attend weekly clinics to review new patients, post-op and regular follow-up patients. This post will have dedicated theatre time with the opportunity to assist and operate under the supervision of the Consultant. The Clinical Fellow is expected to liaise closely with the full range of multi-disciplinary teams involved in the patient's care. Attendance and taking an active involvement in the weekly MDT meeting is a requirement of the role.

  • Substantive experience as a Specialist Registrar in Urology.
  • Proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research, leading to publication.
  • Involvement in the clinical audit process and an understanding of its aims and objectives.

Desirable criteria

  • Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context.

Skills and Abilities
