Job description

The post is an appointment for a 24-month fixed-term contract as a Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Non-Malignant Haematology at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

The Clinical Duties of the Post Include:

The post holder's primary duty will be to support the haematology service, assisting patients, experienced nursing staff, and consultants in delivering a tertiary paediatric haematology service. The clinical fellow will not be based on an inpatient ward and will primarily work within the Non-Malignant service, reviewing haematology outpatients and coordinating their care within Alder Hey and at their local trusts.

  • Attend regular local Non-Malignant Haematology MDT
  • Attend regional Non-Malignant Haematology MDTs for haemoglobinopathy and haemophilia
  • Participate in consultant-led non-malignant haematology inpatient ward rounds
  • Support non-malignant haematology clinics, including general haematology and specialist clinics (e.g., haemophilia and haemoglobinopathy)
  • Assist in reviewing ad hoc patients attending day care or the haematology treatment room
  • Perform lumbar punctures and administer IT therapy on a 1 in 8 basis as part of the theatre rota
  • Perform bone marrow aspirates and trephines on a 1 in 8 basis as part of the theatre rota

The post holder will share in the day-to-day supervision of junior medical staff in the department and may deputise for absent colleagues, performing additional duties during emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
