A regional healthcare provider is seeking a Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Hepatology for a 6-month contract based in Leeds. The role involves managing inpatients, participating in outpatient clinics, and engaging in specialist training. Candidates should have substantial experience in paediatrics and be registered with the GMC. Weare looking to recruit a higher specialist paediatric trainee to join theteam for a period of 6 months with possible furtherextension depending on performance. On call duties will be on the specialtypaediatric HST rota. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested inspecialist training in paediatric hepatology. Please note this post is notsuitable for those wishing to undertake a medical training initiative (MTI)training programme.
Thesuccessful applicant will join a team involved in running asupra-regional Paediatric Hepatology, Hepatobiliary surgery and LiverTransplant service. Leeds is one of only 3 paediatric hepatology units withinthe UK. The ward has 16 beds shared between hepatology and the regional renaland renal transplant service. PICU and all other paediatric specialities areon site. There are subspecialty clinics in metabolic liver disease, viralhepatitis, fatty liver disease and adolescent and transitional care. Outreachclinics are held throughout the North of England and Scotland.
Theteam is led by five consultant paediatric hepatologists together withpaediatric hepatobiliary and transplant surgeons. There are also two ST 6-8doctors on the team, and in addition doctors at ST2 or ST3 level support theward. There will be theopportunity for some on call shifts and this can be discussed

Thedaytime role will be primarily based on the paediatric hepatology ward (L50).The post holder will be involved in the day to day management of inpatients andtake part in outpatient clinics. There will be opportunities to further theirtraining in practical procedures such as therapeutic endoscopy and liverbiopsy. This will include gaining experience in management of patients withacute liver failure, and those undergoing liver transplantation. The weeklyward timetable includes close supervision by consultants and severalopportunities for clinical teaching. The post-holder will have the opportunityto participate in medical audit and local/multi-centre research projects.
ThePaediatric Hepatology Department in Leeds is a National Specialist Service forthe assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of children who have a widerange of acute and chronic liver disease, portal hypertension, or intrahepaticlesions. The department is one of three national centres for Paediatric LiverTransplant and has a close relationship with other specialties at LeedsChildrens Hospital including gastroenterology, cardiology, nephrology,haematology and oncology and rheumatology, for joint management of multisystemdisorders.

LEVELSOF RESPONSIBILITY
Thepost holder may participate in the middle grade on call rota equivalent toST3+ (middle grade). When on-call you will be expected to carry the crashbleep and attend to calls.
TEACHINGAND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING
Thepost holder should have at least 3 years post-graduate experience of generalpaediatrics/paediatric specialities. We have a very robust teaching programmethat involves radiology meetings, grand rounds, junior doctor seminar,paediatric MDT, safeguarding peer review, and journal clubs on a weeklybasis. We also have simulation programmes, governance meetings monthly. Thesuccessful candidate will be encouraged to attend these meetings.
Wealso have year 4 medical student teaching sessions, when they are posted inPaediatrics.
Thesuccessful candidate will have a comprehensive induction programme and willbe assigned a supervisor to support them during their post.
PAEDIATRICLIVER SERVICE
Therewill be a consultant led ward round every morning and evening, exceptWednesday morning. The ward and clinic service commitment will be sharedbetween the Registrars and Clinical Fellow so that each will have flexiblesessions for admin/private study/research.
