Clinical Fellow in Multiple Sclerosis

This is an opportunity for a senior doctor in Neurology, at registrar level or above, to gain specialist experience working alongside our neurology colleagues within the MS service. We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Fellow in Multiple Sclerosis to join our dynamic MS team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, a leading regional MS centre serving a population of over 4 million.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain specialist experience in MS within one of the UK's biggest MS centres.

Main duties of the job
  • Leadership & Governance:
    • Ensures service delivery by the department is within the resources available.
    • Helps manage demand and prioritises on the basis of clinical need.
    • Demonstrates excellence in patient quality care.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
    • Contribute to the design and implementation of MS services delivering high quality patient care.
    • Have excellent report writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues.
    • To develop and maintain effective networks within the region enabling best practice to be identified and implemented by the Trust.
  • Planning and organising:
    • Be willing to be involved with and implementation of new developments in multiple sclerosis.
    • Contribute to the discussion on the future development of multiple sclerosis.
    • Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Effectively plan, communicate and execute changes ensuring engagement and involvement.

The department is located in the New Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. A comprehensive service is provided to QEHB and surrounding hospitals.

Job responsibilities

The post will provide:

  • 3 dedicated MS clinics per week
  • Weekly MS MDT meeting
  • 1 day per week for research and database development
  • Direct supervision and support from our experienced MS consultant team
  • Dedicated secretarial support provided
  • No on-call requirements
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Full GMC Specialist Registration.
  • Neurology SpR level or completed Neurology training.
Experience
  • Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  • An understanding of the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of the MS team.
  • Ability to organise and manage MS outpatient/inpatient priorities in accordance with Trust requirements
