Qualifications

  • GMC registered Medical Practitioner with MRCP(UK) or equivalent.
  • Experience in lung cancer MDTs and respiratory medicine at Higher Specialty Trainee level.

Job overview

This is a one-year clinical fellowship post designed to provide the clinical fellow with the unique opportunity to work with the lung cancer clinicians at Imperial. The role will involve supporting the lung cancer screening service through the Screening review meetings (SRM) and the post holder will be responsible for enacting the outcomes from these meetings. The fellow will support the clinical services so that they can understand the clinical pathways and be immersed in the service. They will be expected to attend and support the MDTs and do clinics. They will take part in one consultant led EBUS list and one consultant led pleural intervention list per week. They will be supported by the lung cancer clinicians and work closely with the clinical nurse specialist teams.

Main duties of the job

The post will provide the fellow with the opportunity to work with the clinical lung cancer team at Imperial and gain experience across the whole lung cancer pathway, at the same time as working within the new lung cancer screening service which is a collaboration between Inhealth, The Joint thoracic service (RMH and RBHT) and Imperial.

Person specification
  • MRCP(UK) or an equivalent qualification
  • National training number to work in the UK at the level of a Specialist Registrar to attain CCT in Respiratory & General Internal Medicine OR already on GMC Specialist Register, must be ST5 or above
  • Valid certified Advanced Life Support or Intermediate Life Support skills
  • GMC registered Medical Practitioner
  • Higher qualifications MD, PhD
Clinical Skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of lung cancer and nodule management and pathways
  • Experience of participating in lung cancer MDTs and clinics
  • Experience in respiratory medicine at Higher Specialty Trainee level
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Lung cancer screening program
  • Prior experience in bronchoscopy and EBUS
  • Prior experience in thoracic US and pleural intervention
  • Evidence of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of the lung cancer waiting time standards and national audit targets
  • IT skills/experience with Cerner electronic health records and e-prescribing
  • Evidence of interest in quality improvement and service development
  • Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
  • Evidence of leading improvement projects
  • Knowledge of finance/budgets
Teaching & Training
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates / postgraduates and junior medical staff
Audit
  • Understanding of principles of clinical audit
  • Evidence of previously leading audits
