Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine

We would like to invite applicants to apply for the Clinical Fellow post in Intensive Care Medicine at Ipswich Hospital.

The Critical Care Unit at Ipswich Hospital is a 22-bedded modern facility located on the first floor of the Garrett Anderson Centre. The unit is fully accredited for FICM training (stage 3) and contributes to regional and medical student education (final year Cambridge students).

Main duties of the job
  • Participate in the delivery of high-quality care in the Critical Care Unit
  • Hold the 055 ICU bleep and respond to referral
  • Participate in ICU on-call rota (1:8 weekends
  • Support patient transfers to regional neurosurgical/cardiothoracic centres (following training)
  • Assist with paediatric stabilisation prior to specialist team transfers
  • Opportunity to gain basic echocardiography accreditation (e.g. FICE)
  • Shift pattern includes daytime, evening, and weekend work

Job responsibilities

Person Specification
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 months anaesthetic training with basic airway competence
  • Current ALS or commitment to achieve within 6 months of commencing post
  • Evidence of achievement of core anaesthesia competencies
  • Experience working in ITU at CT3 and above.
  • Understanding of NHS management structure
  • Understanding of process of medical education and current training programmes
  • Good interpersonal skills, especially communication
  • MRCP
  • Primary FRCA
  • Intercalated BSc, BA, BMedSci or equivalent
  • Periods of training in related specialty, eg medicine, A&E
  • Evidence of some management training, eg attendance at specific management course, specific management qualification
  • Publications in refereed journals
