The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint two Clinical Fellows in Intensive Care Medicine. The posts are to reflect the needs of the Anaesthetic and Intensive Care Department and to support the introduction of newer working practices.
The pay band you will be offered will be that operational at the time you sign your contract in line with Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service.
The on call team consists of ICU Consultant and ICU Junior, a Consultant Generalist on call with experienced middle grade anaesthetist resident for obstetrics and pain, and theatre junior anaesthetist (up to 2200hrs). The team out of hours, although having allocated priorities to roles, work collectively to cover the needs of the patients. This includes:
Out of hours cover will usually include holding an emergency bleep. Anaesthetists are called for Cardiac, Obstetric and Trauma Emergencies and pain management issues for all ages of patient and they are expected to respond in an appropriate manner. The support of seniors will always be available. The Anaesthetists works as a team during the out of hour's period and although priority call of duty will be to the area, designated demand may require flexibility.
The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (JPUH) provides Medical Services for a population of approximately 230,000 living in South East Norfolk and North East Suffolk, plus a large number of visitors to the coast and Broads National Park during the summer months. In addition, it provides approximately 1/3 of the Secondary Care Teaching for the UEA Medical School. The Trust is forward looking and highly regarded within the Region. It became the first Foundation Trust in Norfolk/Suffolk in 2006.
The JPUH continues to be assessed with the overall rating of "Good," following the recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection. This places us in the top 30% of acute trusts in the country.
There is an active teaching/research programme within the department and there are links with the University of East Anglia. There is an excellent purpose built training and education centre on site at the James Paget University Hospital along with a newly refurbished library and learning caf area.

The post is for one year and is suitable for a person with either basic or little UK anaesthetic and ICU experience. The post will be employed at ST1/2 level supervision. The duties of the post will be to provide care for patients working with the department of anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. Support for development in areas such as clinical audit and participation in unit research will be offered.
The department operates a full shift system and integrates Anaesthetic trainees, Clinical Fellows and Speciality Doctors on the same tier rotas.
There are 3 on call rotas for juniors in the Anaesthetic/ICU department and during 1 year you will be expected to be in Rota 2:ICU rota.
