Job description

Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology (Luminal) and General Medicine
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW)

This is a full-time, fixed-term (6 weeks) appointment covering paternity leave at SpR level in Luminal Gastroenterology and General Medicine at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic gastroenterology team, working clinically to support both inpatient and outpatient services. There will also be opportunities to engage in luminal research through established links with the University of Bristol.

The post holder will be part of the general medical on-call rota at Bristol Royal Infirmary, leading the acute medical take and the out-of-hours medical inpatient team as a medical registrar.

Main duties of the job

The Department of Gastroenterology offers exposure to regional intestinal failure services and experience in complex inflammatory bowel disease. The clinical duties can be tailored to the post-holder's needs, including conducting two outpatient clinics per week for new and follow-up patients (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, general luminal gastroenterology), supervised by a consultant. Endoscopy training is available if desired. The remaining clinical time will be dedicated to inpatient gastroenterology work.

High-quality postgraduate education is provided through weekly departmental meetings, the Division of Medicine Grand Round, multidisciplinary meetings in Nutrition, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Gastrointestinal Radiology. Attendance at regional training days is encouraged.

Previous endoscopy experience is desirable but not essential.

There may be opportunities to participate in the acute general medical take at BRI, with a resident on-call rota approximately every 1:10.

Job responsibilities
